Rachel McDonnell is an Irish Glass Artist based in Limerick City. Exploring representations of the landscape through kiln forming techniques. Working delicately to build up the glass layer by layer with the use of glass powders, hand crushed glass, flame formed stringers, hand painting and kiln formed inclusions. This way of working allows Rachel to gradually build up texture in the pieces and also work in a reactionary, organic and intuitive way. Having spent part of her childhood in the urban environment of Manchester City Rachel moved to the wilds of Mayo and it is this combination of environments that feeds into the work. Imperfect wild landscapes of sorts with a sense of beautiful decay and weathering. Pieces of burnt out wild organic matter collected on walks can be found in the glass. Rachel received a BA Fine Art from MTU CCAD. Everything is made by hand so as a result each piece is completely unique. If you have something in mind that you would like to be made especially for you please feel free to contact.
